If the pandemic has robbed you of a holiday as well as live music, a new festival is being launched this year that will answer both cravings – and in a place not usually associated with classical music. Ibiza Clásico is presented by the Verbier Festival and Six Senses on the Balearic island more associated with partying.

From April 20 to 25, concerts will take place at the newly opened Six Senses hotel and resort on Xarraca Bay on the northern tip of Ibiza and will feature orchestral and chamber concerts as well as opera. Masterminded by the two guiding lights of the Verbier Festival, Martin Engstroem and Avi Shoshani, Ibiza Clásico will present concerts by the genre-hopping violinist David Garrett, the pianist Denis Matsuev, the tenor Charles Castronovo and a complete performance of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro conducted by Christoph Koncz. Lahav Shani will conduct the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in Beethoven (his First Piano Concerto with Behzod Abduraimov who also gives a solo recital) and Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony. The baritone Thomas Quasthoff will perform an evening of jazz.

During the six days of the festival, guests and artists will stay at Six Senses Ibiza and combine the concerts with the resort’s spa, shopping, dining in one of the resort's many restaurants and special excursions on the island. Festival goers will be able to attend open rehearsals and mix with the musicians.

‘We’re delighted to be partnering with Jonathan Leitersdorf and his team at Six Senses Ibiza. Ibiza Clásico offers audiences the chance to experience great musicians in the stunning surroundings of Six Senses Ibiza and Xarraca Bay,’ said the festival’s Artistic Directors Engstroem and Shoshani, while Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses, added ‘Hosting Ibiza Clásico adds an extra layer of emotions to Six Senses Ibiza’s immersive cultural and spiritual programming and an enticing new spectrum to the wider Ibiza music scene. To hear such talented musicians playing, with the bay adding its own natural energy and acoustics, makes my heart sing!'
